Beatriz Ordovas is the Director of Contemporary Art at Christie’s<\/a> in Spain. Previously, she was the Head of Private Sales for Europe, the Middle East, Russia, and India based London. She has extensive experience in the auction world, enabling her to understand how prices are set, how both emerging and established artists are-promoted, and how the perception of artistic value is shaped. She is also an expert in digital art and-NFTs.<\/p>\n

What are your main responsibilities in your current role?<\/h2\n\n\n

In my current position, I specialize in the appraisal and valuation of artworks, assessing pieces based on their-historical, artistic, and commercial value. Additionally, I provide comprehensive advice to our clients, guiding them through the processes of buying and selling artworks both at auctions and through private sales.<\/p>\n

How has your professional experience prepared you for your current role, and what has been your greatest challenge?<\/h2>\n

I started working in London, which is Christie’s <\/a>main office. I spent 13 years there before moving to-Madrid.
\nMy first job was an internship, and I gradually worked my way up to become Head of the Contemporary Art Auction. In 2014, I was put in charge of the Private Sales department, where I-led the division for EMERI, always within my area of expertise (Post-War and Contemporary Art). A few years later, I-moved to Spain..<\/p>\n

What inspires you and keeps you informed in a constantly evolving career? What platforms do you use to stay up to date?<\/h2>\n

The Baer Faxt<\/a> and Artnet<\/a> as a reference platform for auction results, as well as visiting many galleries and fairs to identify new artists and primary market prices. This allows me to identify investment opportunities, analyze market trends, and manage negotiations to ensure that each transaction reflects the appropriate-value of the artworks and meets our clients’ goals.<\/p>\n

What skills do you think have contributed to the success you have in your career today?<\/h2>\n

Having a critical eye, understanding people, and always being honest in my recommendations.<\/p>\n

What advice would you give to someone just starting their career?<\/h2>\n

Build a strong network, stay updated, and never stop visiting galleries, museums, and fairs. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
