What are your main responsibilities in your current role?

I am responsible, together with my partner Aurora Zubillaga, for Schader & Zubillaga Fine Art, where we advise collectors and institutions internationally on the acquisition, management, and sale of modern and contemporary artworks.

What has been your professional journey to where you are today, and what were the biggest challenges you faced?

After completing my university studies in the United States, I began my professional career in 1992 at Sotheby’s New York, where I worked in the Latin American Art department. After five years in New York, I returned to Madrid and joined the Marlborough Gallery in 1997. During that period, I worked closely with the artists represented by the gallery, and in 2004, I was appointed Co-Director. In that role, I had the opportunity to promote their work both in Spain and internationally.

In 2005, I returned to Sotheby’s, joining the Madrid team as Director of the Modern and Contemporary Art departments of Sotheby’s Spain, and in 2014, I was appointed Senior Director. Throughout my 20 years at the company, I have witnessed major transformations in the art market, both in Spain and in the main international art centers.

Thanks to my deep knowledge of the modern and contemporary art market, I worked closely with global teams in New York, London, Paris, and Hong Kong, providing guidance to collectors and institutions in Spain to help them expand and diversify their collections.

In 2025, together with my partner Aurora Zubillaga, we founded Schader & Zubillaga Fine Art, a consultancy dedicated to international art advisory, where we combine experience, sensitivity, and a contemporary vision of collecting.

How do you stay inspired and up to date in a constantly evolving field? What platforms do you use to stay informed?

My greatest inspiration comes from seeing art — visiting museums, galleries, fairs, and collections is undoubtedly what inspires me the most. I also find great inspiration in talking with other people who are passionate about art.

What skills or qualities do you consider fundamental to your success in the cultural sector?
