What are your main responsibilities in your current role?
My main responsibilities are managing the Paradores art collection and developing cultural projects.
What has been your professional journey to where you are today, and what were the biggest challenges you faced?
My professional career has developed mainly at Paradores de Turismo, where I started by working on inventory tasks for the collection. I currently lead the Art Department. Perhaps the greatest challenge I have faced in my career has been working in a company outside the artistic sphere and helping to highlight one of its essential values: its art collection and its commitment to the development of cultural tourism.
How do you stay inspired and up to date in a constantly evolving field? What platforms do you use to stay informed?
I work in a company that is pure inspiration. The environment, the history, and the heritage value of our buildings are a constant source of inspiration. I believe that professionals in the arts and culture generally have inspiration built into them. Nowadays, staying informed is easy. Thanks to technology, we have firsthand information about everything happening in the art world. In addition, I believe we should never stop seeing exhibitions, visiting fairs and galleries, and taking every opportunity to continue learning.
What skills or qualities do you consider fundamental to your success in the cultural sector?
Dedication, perseverance, respect, and love for my work. I have always tried to set ambitious yet achievable goals for myself. I believe that in this, or any profession, humility is very important.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career in the cultural world?
Try to surround yourself with people who contribute to your growth and help you evolve. Cultivate curiosity and interest, and do your best to never lose your enthusiasm or stop learning every day.
